Mnemi is designed with privacy at its core. Your memories are personal, and we treat them that way. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information.
This policy reflects the current functionality of Mnemi. As features evolve, this policy will be updated accordingly.
Information We Collect
- Account Information: Email address and display name when you create an account.
- Your Memories: Text entries and voice recordings you create within the app.
- Usage Data: Privacy-friendly, aggregated analytics to improve the service (page views, feature usage). We do not perform behavioral profiling.
- Payment Information: Processed securely by Stripe. We never see or store your card details.
How We Use Your Information
We process your data based on the following legal grounds under GDPR:
- Account creation and storing your memories — necessary for the performance of our contract with you.
- AI features (summaries, keywords, chat) — necessary for the performance of our contract with you.
- Important account notifications — based on our legitimate interest in keeping you informed.
- Product improvement and analytics — based on our legitimate interest in improving our service.
- Payment processing — necessary for contract performance and compliance with legal obligations.
Most processing is based on contract or legitimate interest. Where consent is required (e.g., optional communications), it can be withdrawn at any time.
Data Protection
We implement strong security measures to protect your data:
- All data is encrypted in transit and at rest
- Row-level security ensures only you can access your memories
- Secure authentication with password hashing
- Regular security audits and updates
AI Processing
When you use AI features, your content is processed by third-party AI providers acting as data processors under contract with us. This processing is done solely to deliver the feature you requested.
Your data is not used to train AI models. AI-generated content (summaries, keywords) is stored alongside your memories for your convenience.
Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with service providers who act as data processors under contract:
- Cloud Infrastructure: Secure hosting for your data
- Payment Provider: Stripe processes payments securely
- AI Providers: Process content only to deliver AI features
- Legal Requirements: When required by law or to protect rights and safety
We do not share your memories with other users or make them public.
International Data Transfers
Your data is primarily processed within the European Union. Where data is processed outside the EU, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, such as Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission.
Your Rights
Under GDPR, you have the following rights over your personal data:
- Access: View all your stored memories anytime
- Portability: Download all your data in a portable format from Settings
- Erasure: Remove individual memories or your entire account
- Rectification: Edit your memories and profile information
- Restriction: Request limitation of processing in certain circumstances
- Objection: Object to processing based on legitimate interests
- Lodge a Complaint: File a complaint with your local EU data protection authority

Data Retention
Your memories are stored as long as you maintain your account. If you delete your account, all associated data is permanently removed within 30 days.
Backups are retained for up to 90 days for disaster recovery purposes. Backup data is not actively accessed and is securely deleted after the retention period. Legal obligations may require us to retain certain data beyond these timelines.
Cookies
We use essential cookies to maintain your session and preferences. These cookies are required for the service to function properly.
We do not use tracking cookies or share cookie data with third parties. Because we only use essential cookies, no consent banner is required.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy occasionally. Significant changes will be communicated via email or in-app notification. If you continue using Mnemi after changes take effect, we consider that acceptance of the updated policy.
